Hy-Bon Engineering is a Midland, Texas based company that is a market leader in identifying and capturing low pressure gas streams. For over 55 years Hy-Bon has assisted companies around the globe in increasing their profits and improving the environment by redirecting low pressure gas streams from unvented and flared sources.

Allow us to introduce IQR, a 3 step process:

The capture of associated gas whether it be vent gas from oil production facilities, flare gas on large international projects or biogas from a myriad of different sources is more difficult, more of an engineering challenge than the typical gas compression because this gas is typically wet, it’s typically extremely low pressure. You have to be sure that there is no oxygen ingress, and there’s other technical challenges associated with capturing this low pressure gas and getting it to the next stage of compression.

IQR Services Survey: Identify
There’s three pieces of the puzzle that are critical in order to have a successful gas capture project. The first is identifying these gas streams where you truly understand each vent and emission source where you can make the best solution on capturing this gas.

IQR Services Survey: Quantify
The second piece of the puzzle is quantifying these gas streams. Truly understanding the exact volume of each gas stream in order to make the best technical assessment of how to capture that gas.

IQR Services Survey: Rectify
The final piece of the puzzle is rectifying these gas emissions. That’s where we define the best technical solution for capturing each of the gas streams and helping produce energy from this otherwise wasted energy source.

FLIR Technology
Hy-Bon’s FLIR patented infared video camera sees natural gas emissions that are not visible to the human eye. This technology allows us to detect all hydrocarbon gases including methane, propane, butane and more. Hy-Bon Engineering’s unique service offering, being able to offer a turnkey service in identifying, quantifying, and then capturing, or rectifying, each of these gas streams. Allows our customers to improve the environment through changing work practices, through dramatically at times improving employee safety on the location, and to add real tangible financial benefit to their shareholders. It’s a unique opportunity to achieve all 3 in today’s commodity prices.

IQR Services Survey - Environmental Stewardship
One of the greatest tangible benefits of our IQR service is improving the environment. Methane gas has 21 times the greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide (CO2). While most of the current focus is on carbon dioxide (CO2), there’s a growing aspect of both the carbon credit market and other elements focused on greenhouse gas reduction. It’s targeting methane emissions just because it has such a dramatic impact on the environment for each ton of methane that goes into the atmosphere. As an example our largest project last year, our equipment is capturing 25 million cubic feet of gas in western Africa. Capturing this methane gas stream has the same environmental impact of removing 817,000 cars from the road for one year. It has the same environmental greenhouse gas impact of planting 1.1 million acre’s of trees. Which is a land mass slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island. And it just goes to show you these environmental projects even though each one seems small can have a dramatic impact on reducing greenhouse gases.

IQR Survey Services: Improve Safety
As a minimum we generally find extremely large amounts of gas venting from the storage facilities as well as the compressor stations in storage facilities. The main major safety issue is the potential for hydrogen sulfide (H2S) poisoning and sour gas applications or just long term exposure to this high VOC gas. In compressor stations it’s more immediately dramatic. Because this gas is often in an enclosed environment it’s mixing with oxygen and you have natural gas engines, you have a potential for a spark which could cause an immediate explosion and immediate, and dramatic, impact to human safety.

IQR Survey Services: Benefits Increase Profits
Increase profits by reducing lost product. Now the final and extremely important aspect of IQR is delivering profitability. Bottom line dollars to the shareholder of your company. What we found is the typical tank battery in the US vents between $15,000 and $50,000 of natural gas per month.

We found individual compressor stations that are leaking up to 75 to 150 thousand dollars per month in natural gas just due to cylinders and valve seats that are leaking and that for less than 500 dollars can be modified and fixed and get that gas going back down a pipeline. Each of our IQR surveys delivers real tangible hard dollars to the bottom line for the organization and has the added benefit of dramatically improving employee safety and making a real impact on the environment. It’s a nice three way payback. Hy-Bon Engineering offers a unique approach in the gas compression business. We focus strictly on the gas stream itself and can design and fabricate the most cost effective and technical solution to capturing that gas and getting it into a natural gas pipeline. As a result we are an OEM packager for seven different styles of compression and we can package individual projects from a 5 mcf a day nuscience gas project in west Texas to a 25 thousand cubic feet a day vent gas project in Western Oklahoma. On the larger side this is a 2.5 million cubic feet a day project, a combination project for the West coast of the US and our largest project last year was a 25 million cubic feet a day flare gas reduction project for West Africa. The real value for our customers is that regardless of the vent gas stream we are able to capture this gas and get it into a natural gas pipeline where it’s creating value for their shareholders. We would appreciate an opportunity to put our 55 years of experience in capturing these low pressure gas streams to work for you. Vapor Recovery
Over 50 years ago Hy-Bon Engineering Co. – Midland, Tx. Designed the first small compressor package designed to capture natural gas emissions with high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from oilfield stock tanks. Hy-Bon Engineering has since evolved into a global leader in this market, with units operating in over 20 countries around the globe, including onshore vapor recovery units, offshore VRU’s, and desert units.
Hy-Bon Engineering is a packager of a wide range of gas compressor styles. Hy-Bon has the ability to focus solely on the gas stream in question, and design the most cost effective technical solution to meet your gas compression requirements. For vapor recovery applications, we recommend rotary screw compressors, rotary vane compressors or jet pump compressors.
Hy-Bon Engineering’s unparalleled experience in handling gas streams with high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbine dioxide (CO2) and other corrosive elements assists our customers in meeting these challenges.
Hy-Bon Engineering also maintains an inventory of standard packages for quick turnaround and reduced costs to our customers, for smaller applications. Hy-Bon’s patented Vapor Jet System is a simple, low cost technology for the recovery of gas vapors from oil production facility’s storage tanks. Hy-Bon vapor jet system’s low capital and operating costs offers the customer the ability to make a profit at lower vapor volumes less than 60 mscfd.
Hy-Bon Engineering utilizes 3D modeling software for larger, more complex applications, giving our customers the ability to insert our package directly into their facility’s design software, dramatically reducing customer’s project lead time. From cost effective standard packages to highly sophisticated vapor recovery units for onshore, offshore, domestic or international markets, Hy-Bon’s experience and dedication to our customer needs is second to none.

Hy-Bon Vapor Jet System - Method for Vapor Recovery
Hy-Bon's Vapor Jet System is an alternative to conventional vapor recovery technology for the recovery of hydrocarbon vapors from oil production facilities storage tanks. This process utilizes a pump to pressurize a stream of produced water to serve as the operating medium for a jet pump. The potential energy of the produced water stream is converted to kinetic energy in the jet pump. The high velocity water stream entrains the near atmospheric pressured vapors and returns them to the facilities low pressure system for separation and sale. The water is then returned to the water storage tanks for further degassing and reuse in the vapor jet system process, disposal or injection.
Hy-Bon's vapor jet system is simple, cost effective and virtually maintenance free. Our vapor jet system can be installed for significantly less than compressor based vapor recovery (VRU) systems and over the life of the installation operates at a fraction of their operating expenses.

Casinghead Pressure Reduction
To maximize profits from existing production, producers utilize low horsepower (HP) compression to boost oil production from their fields. Hy-Bon is a global leader in this technology, with hundreds of compressor packages operating in casinghead reduction applications. Based on the gas stream, volume and pressure, Hy-Bon packages rotary screw, rotary vane, reciprocating and liquid ring compressor systems for the reduction of annulus pressure. We also maintain a rental fleet, comprised of over 200 units, specifically targeted at casinghead pressure reduction applications.
The concept of casinghead pressure reduction is straight forward. As wellhead pressure is added, pressure on the formation is impacted. Well pressures at the formation level are complicated even more by fluctuations in wellhead pressures from the pipeline. Relieving these pressures in the casinghead reduces the pressure on the formation, allowing gas or oil to flow from the formation into the well bore with greater ease. By reducing pressure on the formation, gas lock problems are also reduced. In many cases production has been double and sometimes tripled. Packages are available in trailer mounted and skid mounted designs.

Field Gas Gathering Booster System
It’s evident that sales and distribution line pressures are going up constantly. Recognizing that the flowing pressure of a well typically declines over the course of it’s lifetime, it’s easy to see the need for compression on individual wells or a series of wells. You don’t get paid if you don’t get the gas through the pipeline.
Hy-Bon’s compressors are designed to pull gas through a manifold system and consolidate into one gas stream. Hy-Bon’s booster compressors are utilized to take gas at one pressure and boost it to a higher pressure. This boosting requirement may be due to higher line pressure, or a downstream process that requires higher pressure, or as the first stage of a multi stage gas compression system. Based on the gas stream, volume and pressure, Hy-Bon packages rotary screw, rotary vane, reciprocating and liquid ring compressor systems for field gas gathering and field gas boosting applications.
Our field compressor packages can be configured to work with artificial lift systems. Our units automatic functionality allows automatic restarts, even with natural gas engines. We offer either trailer mounted or skid mounted units, either engine drive or electric motor models, including a variety of options to fit your application.

Waste Water Gas Compression
We are a leader in waste water gas recovery. We offer standard or custom packages designed to meet our customers requirements. Addressing the most challenging gas streams and providing integrated gas compression packages for waste water treatment facilities around the globe.

LFG - Landfill Gas Compression
Landfill operators around the world are economically collecting gas emissions produced by landfills during the docomposition of organic matter in these landfills. This landfill gas (LFG) can no longer be vented to the atmoshphere in many countries. Hy-Bon's gas compression equipment collect this LFG for utilization of many beneficial applications.
